About the role...

Your role is to provide legal advice and support, draft and negotiate contracts, contribute to decision making process, as well as to the development of policies in compliance with existing regulations. Embedded in a committed team, you will advocate the use of best practices in your domain and report directly to the C2DH Head of Operations. You will collaborate with several colleagues and liaise with central departments and offices of the University of Luxembourg, e.g. for GDPR, IPR and VAT topics. Close collaboration with the research projects owners and senior management is key and a problem-solving mind-set is requested.

More specifically, the job includes the following tasks:

  • Advise management and stakeholders on the interpretation and application of laws and rules within the organisation, and support the development of legal awareness
  • Initiate, develop, implement and monitor compliance of internal legal frameworks, policies and/or rules
  • Draft, prepare, review and/or amend legal documents and contracts, considering the objectives and the legal and regulatory environment
  • Monitor rights, obligations and formalities contained in Terms and Conditions of contracts
  • Lead and/or participate and/or support contract negotiations
  • Assess our legal position, and provide proposals and advice to resolve eventual disputes, and ensure litigation, if necessary, in accordance with internal guidelines
  • Liaise and ensure relationship with internal and external lawyers, legal experts and/or consultants, and participate in expert meeting with other institutions or partners when needed
  • Maintain internal databases and ensure proper, consistent and timely administration, archiving and registration of legal documents
  • Anticipate legal changes by detecting and monitoring trends in case law, laws and relevant legislations, assessing their potential impacts and ensuring communication to concerned stakeholders
  • Support the internal and external audits and evaluations related to the C²DH, its activities and projects

Your profile...

The ideal candidate would have demonstrated experience in legal matters, ideally in complex and multicultural environments. We seek a highly motivated candidate with the following profile:

  • Master’s degree in Contract law, IPR and/or GDPR, or equivalent by work experience
  • 7 years of experience in legal affairs involving multiple stakeholders; previous experience in research environment and/or in a university would be an asset
  • Ability to design, propose and/or negotiate contracts and/or adaptations to existing policies based on own expertise and research in various legal domains, establish interpretation of the law, provide legal advice and deal with important, complex and/or sensitive legal topics
  • Demonstrated integrity and diplomacy, ability to apply sound judgment and critical thinking
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to interact in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
  • Team player, solution-oriented, pragmatic, proactive and effective
  • Proficiency with modern office software, spreadsheets and collaborative platforms
  • Fluent in English and French, knowledge of German is a plus
