The Ethics & Compliance Office, within the Office of Legal and Administrative Affairs, develops and implements HPE’s industry-leading ethics and compliance practices that uphold our values of trust, integrity and respect. You will be part of the Office’s Privacy team composed of lawyers and privacy operations specialists. The team interacts directly with global procurement specialists, lawyers and other functional experts.  You will work directly with the country counsel and procurement teams to think and act both strategically and tactically with respect to the needs of the business clients and their objectives while ensuring that the company remains compliant with privacy and data-related laws, as well as industry best practices.

You will support business units on data protection matters. You will have significant international exposure and will advise on privacy challenges in multiple jurisdictions. You will be responsible for ensuring the management in your stakeholder lines of business are aware of and can take risk based commercial decisions on how to meet their compliance obligations under privacy & data-related laws, and other privacy and governance frameworks.

You will have close alignment with teams on cybersecurity, IT and emerging technologies, such as biometrics, artificial intelligence and identification technologies, collaborating on all privacy matters.

Key responsibilities

  •  Provide timely, accurate, quality global privacy legal advice, on all aspects of data protection, to various business units.
  • Work on Privacy terms, data sharing agreements and data processing agreements cross border data transfer provisions, data localization requirements, profiling, consent
  • Advise commercial teams and business partners on data protection related provisions in contracts, taking account of privacy accountability requirements.
  • Support stakeholders to navigate compliant use of personal data for new/existing products, services and changes to business processes.
  • Review and conduct data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and other privacy risk assessments for projects.
  • Monitor and respond to developments in data protection and relevant consumer laws (i.e., new laws, regulations, important judgements, regulatory guidance, etc.)
  • Assess and advise on compliance gaps, potential incidents, data subject access requests and data retention.
  • Develop and provide impactful training for employees.
  • Facilitate communications between local teams and functional experts and the central Privacy Office.

  

Essential skills and experience

  • Qualified lawyer with at least 3 years of experience including 1 year of hands-on Privacy experience
  • Significant experience drafting contracts and negotiating with respect to international data transfers.
  • You are digitally adept and can manage privacy related issues on a range of commercial activities, creating actionable toolkits for others.
  • High level of integrity, resilience, and interpersonal skills.
  • Required Language Proficiency: English (must have excellent written and verbal command) and Accredited Data Privacy Professional (highly desirable).
  • Experience working in a Multinational Corporation is preferred.
  • Experience working in high-transaction environments i.e technology/software/telecom/banking etc
